MIDDLE POINT — Van Wert City Police is conducting an investigation in Middle Point on Wednesday.

Van Wert County Sheriff Tom Riggenbach said the Sheriff's Office is assisting the police in their investigation and there was a search warrant executed this morning at a residence in Middle Point. The residence is 304 S. Adams St.

Since the investigation is outside of city limits, Sheriff Riggenbach is handling media communication.

City Police Chief Joel Hammond did, however, confirm that this was an investigation being led by the Van Wert City Police and the investigation is ongoing. No other details were given on what was being investigated that resulted in the the search warrant.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was also on scene with four Crime Scene Unit vehicles near the residence.

A group of investigators was also established on Middle Point-Wetzel Road north of US 30 where Sheriff's deputies and others were seen searching a field about two miles north of the Van-Del Drive-in.

Roads surrounding the location on South Adams Street are closed to keep traffic away from the investigation area and the area is taped off.

More details will be published as they are released.
